2008 Commonwealth Collaboratives
President Todd and Provost Subbaswamy have added 13 new Commonwealth Collaboratives, marking the University of Kentucky’s continuing commitment to addressing the Commonwealth’s priority needs and elevating its quality of life. The new 2008 Collaboratives join 23 ongoing research-based engagement efforts and will be tracked annually. The newly designated programs, like those announced earlier, address major challenges to Kentuckians—Health, Healthcare, Cost and Access to Healthcare; Education; Economic Development; the Environment and Natural Resources; and Culture/Quality of Life.
The Commonwealth Collaboratives and the UK researchers directing them model effective research-based engagement addressing Kentucky’s priority needs, advancing knowledge, and making life better.
New initiatives for 2008 include:

- The Clean Indoor Air Initiative
- Health Care Needs of Offenders at Community Reentry from Prison
- Mt. Sterling Health Initiative
- Oral Infections and their Effect on Medical Management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
- Rural Medication Management

The University's 36 new and continuing Commonwealth Collaboratives are far from UK's only efforts to advance Kentucky. Information on UK engagement activity across the Commonwealth is available online.
