Over 130 UK professional and faculty advisors, student affairs personnel, admissions and registrar staff and other student services staff attended a two-day conference, “We Can Make a Difference: Reshaping the UK Student Experience” sponsored by Provost Kumble R. Subbaswamy. The historical event, led by Dr. Charlie Nutt, Associate Director of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) and Assistant Professor of Education at Kansas State University was hosted by the UK Advising Network.

Making a Difference II, a continuation of a workshop held in 2007, was held May 22, 2008, with the support of Dr. Phil Kraemer, Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education at the Boone Center. This one-day workshop hosted by the UK Advising Network was an opportunity for 115+ University Student Affairs staff, Admissions & Registrar staff, Advising Network members, and associate deans to gather and discuss ways to improve student success and satisfaction and rates of retention and graduation. The Design Principles of a Revised General Education Curriculum [PDF], approved by the UK University Senate in Spring 2008, were presented and served as a basis for discussion of how the University community can work together to contribute to the success of the principles in complementary co-curricular ways.
