Apply to be a Faculty Fellow

The Faculty Fellows program is a component of Presentation U! (the QEP endorsed by SACS in April 2013). Participating fellows will get help designing instructional lessons and assignments, as well as preparing and using rubrics to evaluate and assess student work as they integrate these components into upper division courses in their majors. The obligations are listed below for Cohort numbers 2 and 3. Please carefully review the obligations below for each cohort before applying to be a Faculty Fellow.

OBLIGATIONS FOR COHORT #2

(Fall 2014, Spring 2015, Fall 2015)

Fall 2014:
Attend professional development sessions lead by multimodal composition and communication (MCXC) experts to learn strategies for integrating MCXC (oral, written, visual, digital) instruction and assignments into a course. Complete an online assessment survey after each session.

To be eligible for participation in Cohort #2, faculty fellows must agree to attend these professional development sessions held once per month on Thursdays from 12:45-2:00 pm (lunch provided). The dates for the 2014 Faculty workshops follow:

  • September 4 and 25

  • October 16

  • November 13

  • December 4

Note: If you have a conflict from 12:45-2:00 pm on Thursdays during the Fall 2014 term, consider applying instead for Cohort #3.

Work one-on-one with MCXC consultants to redesign syllabi in ways that effectively integrate MCXC components into upper division courses.

Deliverable: Modified syllabus with MCXC components embedded, MCXC assignment description, MCXC grading rubric, and a one to two page reflection statement about what they have included in the syllabus and why.

Honorarium: $1000

Spring 2015:
Teach the newly designed course and collect authentic MCXC assessment data.
Work one-one-one with MCXC consultants in peer coaching sessions as they create and implement MCXC instruction and assignments in their courses.

To be eligible for participation in Cohort #2, faculty fellows must be able to teach the redesigned course during the Spring 2015 semester.

Deliverable: lesson plan, 1-2 page reflection on peer coaching experience, assessable MCXC student work

Honorarium: $1000

Fall 2015:
Work with MCXC consultants to examine assessment data and modify instruction and assignments (or not) as warranted.

Share experiences (successes and lessons learned) with new cohort of faculty fellows in the form of a formal presentation and/or documents archived in the Presentation U! online repository.

Deliverable: Reflective teaching portfolio documenting the three-semester experience. The portfolio will be archived in the Presentation U! online repository. Faculty fellows may also share their lessons learned with new faculty fellows cohort group.

Honorarium: $1000

To be eligible for participation in Cohort #3, faculty fellows must agree to attend these professional development sessions held on Wednesdays, 11:45 - 1:00pm (lunch provided)Note: If you have a conflict from 11:45 - 1:00pm on Wednesdays during the Spring 2015 term, consider applying instead for Cohort #2.

Work one-on-one with MCXC consultants to redesign syllabi in ways that effectively integrate MCXC components into upper division courses.
