Garrett Sparks: 2002-2003
Mentor: Dr. Robin Cooper

As an undergraduate at the University of Kentucky, Garrett Sparks conducted research with Dr. Robin Cooper in the Biology department for two years, publishing three first-author articles on invertebrate neurophysiology. He went on the graduate school at the University of Michigan, where he received his Master of Science degree in Clinical Research and Epidemiology. His research focused on perinatal mental health and early childhood temperment and anxiety disorders. He has since graduated from the University of Michigan's medical school on a full-tuition Dean's Scholarship. He is currently a Psychiatry resident at the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center where he is exploring the clinical course and treatment of severe mood disorders and substance abuse in children and adolescents.
