Senate Proposal | GWR Approval Process
The Writing Initiative was created to help faculty
develop courses
which allow students to fulfill the upper tier graduation
writing requirement in their home discipline.
Departments can do this either by modifying an existing
course or courses or by developing a new course or series of courses.
We recommend interested departments begin by reviewing
the syllabus guidelines the Senate
has established for all GWR courses to determine if
existing courses can be modified
or if a new course or courses need to be developed.
Departments will then need to determine if they are able
to offer this course permanently
or if they would prefer to offer this course as a
semester-by-semester option.
A brief description of the differences in these courses
and their approval process can be found here.
We encourage departments to contact us early in the
process of course development
and are happy to assist with all paperwork related to GWR
approval.
The
Writing Initiative is offering support to the following pilots this
semester: ENG 204, EGR 199, MSE 403G, ME 311, and MA 330.
Due to
great demand support is generally available only for the first semester
a course is offered as a GWR option.
If you are
teaching a GWR class, please feel free to call us to see what support is
available.
At this
point, we cannot offer support for new GWR courses.
However,
as pilots end, we will be ready to begin new ones.
Please watch
this space for updates.
