University Studies Program (USP) Exceptions

If you have taken a course at UK or elsewhere that is not a designated USP course you may petition the USP Exceptions Committee to grant an exception to allow the course to satisfy a USP requirement. If you are petitioning transfer work, it must first be evaluated by the Transfer Equivalency Office. Go to Room 10 Funkhouser (Phone: 859-257-9532) in order to determine the UK equivalent which will be recorded on your Unofficial Transcript.

In order to submit a Petition, please do the following

  • Fill out and print a copy of the University Studies Program Exceptions Committee Petition Form (PDF).
  • Complete the form, attach a course description and/or syllabus and bring the Petition and other materials to Central Advising Service and Transfer Center in 109 Miller Hall.
  • The USP Exceptions Committee will rule on your request for an exception to be made within two weeks.
  • You and your Academic College will be notified by email once the decision has been made and recorded in APEX.

Some important reminders:

  • Be sure to complete all the sections of the Petition form and sign it before you turn it in at Miller Hall.
  • The USP Exceptions Committee can only accept petitions for a class to satisfy a University Studies Program (USP) requirement. To determine if an alternate course will satisfy a College or Major requirement, contact the appropriate College.
  • If you have questions about the process, contact your Academic Advisor for assistance.
