Academic Enhancement

Academic Enhancement provides a variety of resources in one central location to guide students to more effective learning.

Advising Network

The Advising Network was created to promote quality academic advising at the University of Kentucky, support the professional growth of academic advisors, and facilitate cooperation and exchange of information among persons who perform advising functions.

Appalachian and Minority Science,
Technology, Engineering, and
Mathematics Majors (AMSTEMM)

This program is a coordinated effort to recruit, retain, and graduate undergraduates from Appalachia and other Minorities who intend to or are currently majoring in STEM disciplines.

Center for Academic Resources and
Enrichment Services (CARES)

CARES provides a comprehensive academic support system, as well as enrichment services outside the classroom. Programs and activities are designed to assist students in achieving academic excellence and adjusting to student life at the University. Services include: tutoring, study groups, study skills workshops, academic planning and monitoring, career exploration and peer mentoring.

Center for Academic Tutoring Services (CATS)

The mission of the CATS program is to create an environment where all student-athletes have the opportunity to maximize their academic, personal, and social growth and improve their post college quality of life.

Central Advising Service and Transfer Center

The mission of the Central Advising Center and Transfer Center is to be a comprehensive resource center, which enables students to realize their potential for academic and holistic growth and development.

Chellgren Center for Undergraduate Excellence

The purpose of the Chellgren Center for Undergraduate Excellence is to advance and represent the University's commitment to excellence and diversity in undergraduate education. The Chellgren Center acts as a catalyst for improvements in undergraduate education and, as such, inspires and guides creative and progressive reform to provide the finest academic experience possible for all students at UK.

COMPASS Placement Testing

The COMPASS Placement Test is an important component of the Academic Readiness Program. The UK COMPASS Placement Tests are offered to identified newly admitted first year UK students to demonstrate proficiencies in basic skills.

Counseling and Testing Center

The University of Kentucky Counseling & Testing Center can help students deal with many concerns that interfere with academic performance and the overall college experience. Individual counseling, group therapy, and couples counseling are all available. There are a range of workshops and groups available on topics like test anxiety, relaxation, career choice, stress management, and social confidence. Counseling & Testing services are free for students enrolled at UK for at least six credit hours. Experiences in Undergraduate Research & Kreative Activities

The purpose of eUreKa! is to provide coordination and leadership for the many programs that are designed to encourage and support undergraduate research, scholarship, and creativity. By bringing these programs together, they all benefit from the symbiosis of cooperation, and the University receives strengthened programs and more efficient administration.

Experiential Education and Career Services

The mission of the James W. Stuckert Career Center is to serve students, alumni, and employers with high-level career education programs and to provide students with work-based experience and employment opportunities.

Free Online Tutoring

Academic Readiness Program students can enhance their skills for a successful freshman year through free access to the PLATO online tutoring, with personal support from a subject matter expert. PLATO software features multiple assessment options to accurately identify skills gaps and individualize learning plans.

Gaines Center for the Humanities

The Gaines Center for the Humanities functions as a laboratory for imaginative and innovative education on campus. Devoted to cultivating an appreciation of the humanities in its students and faculty, the Center embraces varied paths of knowledge, and particularly strives to integrate creative work with traditional academic learning.

Retention and Student Success

The Office of Retention and Student Success is dedicated to planning, coordinating, and administering retention efforts aimed at significantly improving the academic and social experience of students at the University of Kentucky.

Robinson Scholars Program

The Robinson Scholars Program serves first generation college-bound and college students who have demonstrated the potential to succeed but who might encounter economic, cultural, or institutional impediments to their completion of four-year college degrees. The Program's mission is to provide these students with support services and scholarship resources that empower them to complete a baccalaureate degree and thereby increase the educational capital of their communities.

Student Support Services

Student Support Services is a federally funded program designed to work with students who are first generation, low income, and have a documented disability. We provide a holistic approach to working with students designed to aid in retention and graduation. Services provided are tutoring, mentoring, academic planning and social/cultural activates.

Teaching and Academic Support Center

The Teaching and Academic Support Center (TASC) is a diverse group of faculty and staff whose mission is to improve teaching and student learning throughout our university. TASC encourages and promotes pedagogical innovation, effective applications of teaching technology, and development of alternative instructional models.
