UKFCU Board of Directors
The Board of Directors at the University of Kentucky Federal Credit Union is a very important asset that helps direct and control the affairs and goals of the credit union. The Board is made up 9 unpaid volunteers, elected by the membership. Click on a board member name or picture to see a brief biography of that board member.
Scott Kelley was elected to the Board of Directors in 2002. He currently serves as Treasurer of the Board. Dr. Kelley has previously served as the Vice-Chair and Chair of the UKFCU Board. Dr. Kelley has been a member of the faculty in the Gatton College of Business & Economics at the University of Kentucky since 1989. He currently serves in the college as the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Affairs.
Dr. Kelley earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business from the University of Evansville; a Master of Business Administration degree from Western Illinois University; and a Doctor of Business Administration in Marketing from the University of Kentucky.
Dr. Kelley joined the University of Kentucky Federal Credit Union (UKFCU) as an employee of the University of Kentucky in 1998.
Penny Cox was elected to the UKFCU Board of Directors in 1996, and currently serves as Board Chair. She joined the UKFCU as a member in 1973. From 1993 to 1996 she served on the Supervisory Committee. Over the past 19 years, she has held numerous leadership positions with the UKFCU. She completed all the VAP modules to attain Board volunteer certification. She stays abreast of Credit Union and financial industry trends by participation in CUNA and CUES as well as reading journals and webinars. She is a strong “member give-back” advocate.
- Her academic qualifications, and executive management experience includes an undergraduate and MBA degree from the University of Kentucky (UK), nearly 40 years of progressively responsible leadership positions since beginning work at UK in 1972.
- She is an Adjunct Faculty member in the UK Martin School of Public Administration. She teaches the PA-624: Technology in Government.
She is the Associate VP for Info Technology at UK. She provides strategic leadership in the Office of the CIO, to drive best practices through the implementation of financial management, project/portfolio management methods, governance processes, forecasting, planning, communications, total quality management and metrics. She also volunteers with other organizations.
Dr. Keith H. Johnson received his PhD in economics from the University of Illinois. He retired as a Professor of Finance from the University of Kentucky Gatton College of Business and Economics in 2008 after 38 years of service. His primary teaching and research areas were in corporation finance and investments where he authored over 100 research papers. He served on various departmental, college and university committees, the University Senate, and performed administrative duties including MBA program director, director of graduate studies in finance, and chairman of the Department of Finance.
He joined the University of Kentucky Federal Credit Union board of directors in 2001 and has served as Treasurer, served on the Asset Liability Committee, Building Committee and currently the Supervisory Committee. Other current activities include board member, University of Kentucky Wesley Foundation, and the Financial Stability Impact Council of the United Way of the Bluegrass.
Jennifer Krieger was elected to the Board of Directors in 2006 after serving three years as Chair of the Supervisory Committee. She currently serves as Secretary of the Board. Ms. Krieger has over thirty-five years of financial management experience, including thirty years at the University of Kentucky. She currently serves as Director of Budgets for the Kentucky Community and Technical College System. She is co-owner of Designer Glass, Inc., a local stained glass company.
Ms. Krieger has a Bachelors’ degree in business management and a Masters’ degree in Public Administration with an emphasis in Higher Education, both from the University of Kentucky.
Ms. Krieger joined the University of Kentucky Federal Credit Union (UKFCU) as an employee of the University of Kentucky in 1976.
Marilyn Childre was elected to the Board of Directors in 1989 and is currently serving in her second year as Vice Chair. She also served as Board Secretary from 1996-98 and 2009-10. During her long and dedicated service on the Board, she has chaired the Nomination, Marketing and Membership, and Human Resources Committees, as well as membership on the Governance, Building and Construction, CUSO, Retirement, and Ad-Hoc Philanthropic Sponsor Committees. She actively attends annual credit union conferences and continuing education offered to credit union directors.
Professionally, Marilyn is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and holds a degree in Business Administration. She is currently the Dean of Operations and Assistant to the President/Special Projects at the Bluegrass Community and Technical College and previously held the position of Dean of Business Affairs (CFO) at the University of Kentucky Lexington Community College from 1984 – 2004. Prior to taking the CFO position at LCC, Marilyn was UK’s Loans Collections Officer and Assistant Director of Student Billing Services.
Marilyn first joined the UK Federal Credit Union in the ‘70’s. “It has been my primary financial institution ever since, and I feel truly privileged and honored to have served on the Board and to witness UKFCU’s membership growth and many successes!”
Anna’s initial service to the UKFCU began in 1995 where she served as a committee member on the now defunct Human Resources Committee. In 2005 she was selected to serve out the term of a retiring board of directors member and the following year was voted to begin a new term. Her board service has included serving on the Supervisory and Governance committees and chairing the Marketing, Travel Policy ad hoc, Nominating and Governance committees.
Currently Anna serves as the Director of Institutional Diversity in The Graduate School of the University of Kentucky after having been the founding director of the Office of Minority Affairs for the UK Chandler Medical Center. Prior to coming to the University of Kentucky, Anna had been EEO officer at the Lexington Veterans Affairs Medical Center and had served as Chief of Employment for the Detroit Computing Center of the Internal Revenue Service. She began her professional career as a teacher in the Paris, KY Independent School system.
Anna is an intuitive visionary who has a heart for service as is evidenced in her community, church and professional activities.
Stephen Burr was appointed to the Supervisory Audit Committee in 2008 and served as secretary for the committee in 2012. He was elected to the Board of Directors at the May 2012 members meeting. Stephen is an information technology professional with sixteen years of IT experience, focusing on leadership, management, customer service, and business intelligence. He has a Bachelors degree in Information Systems from Pace University (Pleasantville, NY) and is currently pursuing a Masters in Business Administration at the University of Kentucky.
Stephen originally joined the credit union in 2002 while working at the University of Kentucky as a Systems Programmer. In his current role as Business Intelligence Lead, he is responsible for data warehousing, reporting, and analytics for all University enterprise systems.
Marla Collins was appointed to the Board of Directors in 2006 and served as the Treasurer from 2008 thru 2011. Marla also served on the Supervisory Committee prior to her appointment to the Board. Currently, she is serving as the Chair of the Governance Committee. Professionally, Marla has been employed by the University of Kentucky for 20 years where she’s served in a variety of positions focused on financial administration and business process improvement.
Ms. Collins has an undergraduate degree in Accounting from the University of Kentucky along with a Masters of Business Administrations. Marla regularly participates in training and development activities and conferences to enhance her knowledge of financial institutions, specifically credit unions.
Marla became a member of the University of Kentucky Federal Credit Union in 1988 when she was employed in the College of Agriculture, University of Kentucky. “Joining the credit union was one of the best decisions I ever made, and I feel privileged to serve as a volunteer.”
Vince “Dino” Marletta has served on the UKFCU Board of Directors since 2008, where he currently is a member on the UKFCU Supervisor Committee, he has also served on the Building and Construction, Ad Hoc Committee on By Laws, 401K Retirement Review and Ad-Hoc Philanthropic Sponsor (chair) committee.
As a Major Account Manager for Windstream Communications, Vince handles all Commonwealth of Kentucky-Public Higher Education actives. He brings 15 plus years of sales, marketing and management knowledge to Windstream with the last 10 years in data and voice communications. Vince brings a strong background in Management, Marketing, and Information technology to the UKFCU board. He has also owned a small business.
He has three children, Sarah, Will and Jack. He has been a member of the University of Kentucky Federal Credit Union since 1988. He is an avid runner, and enjoys being very active in the community, where he has been a volunteer youth basketball coach and Sunday school at Christ Church Cathedral. He is currently on the Board of Directors of the Downtown Lexington Corporation, and is a member of the YMCA. He has served as a board member of Los Amigos (President), Ecumenical Preschool, Allegheny Chamber of Commerce and Townhouse Association (President).
Vince Marletta is from Lexington, KY, and is a 1991 graduate of the University of Kentucky, with Bachelors of Business Administration.
Responsibilities
The Board of Directors is responsible for setting the direction and controlling the affairs of the credit union, as guided by the wishes of the membership, credit union philosophy, and the requirements of laws and regulations. They also ensure the credit union is:
- Being managed by a knowledgeable CEO
- Providing the CEO with adequate resources to employ capable staff
- Complying with all applicable laws and regulations
- Achieving the membership goals stated in the charter
Supervisory Committee
The Supervisory Committee is very important to the University of Kentucky Federal Credit Union. We currently have 5 members who serve on our committee to oversee the activities and direction of the credit union.

Responsibilities
The Supervisory Committee is responsible for ensuring that the credit union is operating safely and reliably. It also confirms that there is sufficient documentation to reflect the safety condition. The committee carries out its duties by:
- Hiring external auditors and working closely with our internal auditors
- Ensuring that our Board of Directors is fulfilling their responsibilities
- Utilizing third parties to assist them with their duties
- Hiring an outside accounting firm to perform the financial opinion audit
