TEXT for “UK’s Mission” Video: "-The very clear goal of the University of Kentucky is to move into the very elite of academic institutions. -I think it's absolutely amazing that we are aiming to be a top 20 school… -He challenged all of us as faculty to stretch and become part of the top 20. -If we just count research dollars, and that’s how we get there, by knocking number 20 out of its position, by doing research that Washington and corporations want us to do, we could fail this state. I think we have a higher purpose. -Any university that is a top university today has got to be a global university. -Whatever research I do I can use it to help the outside. -Research universities need to mirror the world and all of its complexities. -…and we're all working really hard to do that. -We encourage our students to get involved in service as a major element of their education. -This is the first time I do some community work, because we don’t have that in Morocco. -It’s a great opportunity to really get out into the community and help out. -It’s been a blessing to have these kids come out and interact with the community. -Everything about the University of Kentucky speaks to doing what do in order to improve the communities that we’re engaged in, and that means everything from our local and regional community to the international community. -Having the best health profession colleges here, the best hospital here, and those kinds of things will help us reach out into the community and actually help people. -The Top 20 Plan is what we're able to do for mankind, for people. -Within a ten-minute walk, you can go from Fine Arts to Medicine and to Agriculture all in you know, one shot, so the multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary training and education that you can get on this campus is quite unique. -Arts Adminstration -Civil Engineering -Political Science -Architecture -Agricutltural -Biotechnology -Accounting and Finance -Human Nutrition -Chemistry -Animal Science -Arts Administration and English -Biology -Broadcast Journalism -Marketing and Finance -Integrated Strategic Communications -Communications -Accounting -As an undergrad, it has just completely changed what I thought college would be. It’s made it really valuable and so far beyond just classes. -It makes me feel so proud to be a part of this organization when the best students in Kentucky feel like they can come here and get a world-class education. -They were promising an education that would rival any of the Ivy Leagues, and it has. -The world has changed. It’s much more global. We want to have an international element to everything we do. -That means connecting the global research of the faculty with the movement of students, international students coming to our campus and our students seeing more of the world. -….which makes everyone a better world citizen. -There are people who go to UK from everywhere. -…hundreds of international students, students from all different backgrounds… -ethnic backgrounds and regional backgrounds… -People just get to know each other and learn more about different cultures. -If you learn more about others, you really get a lot more out of it. -You’re not only impacting your life, but you’re impacting others as well, acting as a global citizen. -I got to travel to Morocco. -I am going to be doing my study abroad in Edinburgh, Scotland -I went to South Korea -My study abroad experience was in Ecuador. -I really wanted to go to understand different culture. -It was really great meeting a lot of people and learning a lot about Ecuador. -It’s kind of an adventure but at the same time in the classroom we learned a lot about architecture and also picking up the language. -Studying abroad was definitely a life changing experience for me. -It really changes your attitude towards the world around, your world view and it’s just a confidence booster. -I got to go and study with top-notch professors from all over the world, and that was just an experience like I have never imagined that I could have done anything like that. UK made that happen! -We also want more students abroad to come and experience the University of Kentucky and the United States. -Our colleges work closely with the Office of International Affairs to create a seamless environment for international students. -I chose UK because it’s a great place to be and has many opportunities for a student like me from a different country who moved to the United States with great opportunities. -I’m an international student from Kenya. I actually was very pleasantly surprised when I came to UK. I didn’t feel estranged at all. People were extremely friendly, I felt really welcomed, and that just made the transition really easy for me.” -You know Kentucky is all about seeing blue. -See blue. -See blue. -See blue. -See blue really is about achieving the best. -We’re a world-ready campus. -It’s a great experience that I wouldn’t have traded for anything. -It has opened so many great doors for me. -Everybody always talks about how here at UK, we bleed blue, but now we get to see blue and know that we are all unified together. -It is definitely going to help me with my future. -…anything you can imagine. -Our doors are open to the entire world. -It’s one of the most amazing things I’ve ever been a part of. -I think we all know that we go to a great university, we wanted to come here and we love it, and we're just ready for the rest of the world to understand that with us.”
