Computer Operations
UK Information Technology Computer Facilities Services is comprised of two distinct, yet complimentary, departments: Computer Operations and Data Coordination. Jointly, these areas oversee the operation of the University's computing hardware and software facilities, ensuring they are operational and available to our vast user community.
The University's computers work around-the-clock ...and that means our staff does too. We're here 24 hours-a-day every day to meet the University's academic, research, and administrative computing needs.
Our Services
Our customer community includes UK administrators, research faculty, staff and students. To provide the University of Kentucky computing resources to faculty, staff, and students, Computer Facilities Services personnel are on duty around-the-clock.
Computer Operations assists University Administration by monitoring the satisfactory execution of all administrative jobs. In the process, high-density disk drives, magnetic-tape handlers, and high-speed printers are utilized to provide on-line, as well as printed, information.
Data Coordination provides the interface between the programming staff, end user, and our automatic scheduling software, ensuring that required jobs complete execution in the proper sequence and within necessary time constraints. If problems are encountered, Data Coordination initiates and coordinates problem resolution. The Data Coordination staff also coordinates scanning of all "scantron" forms for both research and grading processes.
To ensure the integrity of each job and keep our customers' computing jobs "on track," both departments work from documentation prepared by our programming department, in conjunction with the administrative user and Computer Operations staff. This documentation provides routine answers/solutions to basic situations that may occur during processing.
Network Hotline
In addition, Computer Operations dispatches after-hours "trouble calls" made to the University's Network Hotline. By monitoring/answering our Network Hotline, the Computer Operations staff also provide the first level of assistance to our user community when network problems are experienced. The hotline phone number is 859-257-9676.
