System Services
With Windows 2000 and XP some software like anti virus programs, firewalls or hardware monitoring tools can run as system services. To control the startup behavior of these services you should use the Microsoft Computer Management Console. Right-click the My Computer desktop icon and select Manage from the menu. Go to the Services and Applications section to get the service list.
To disable the automatic starting of a service go to Properties (shortcut menu item) and set Startup type to Manual.
