Declaring a Major >> Read a quick overview on How to Declare a Major [PDF] When: Students can declare their major beginning April 18, 2013–October 4, 2013. See the Academic Calendar for current dates. In general, majors may be declared or changed before and after Priority Registration but not during this period. Who: Any student can change majors during the designated approved periods but certain restrictions apply: >> Any student with 60 or more earned credit hours may not declare Undergraduate Studies as their major. >> Majors in Colleges of Business, Communications, Design, Engineering, Nursing and the major of Landscape Architecture (all "Selective") must first apply and then be accepted into the major prior to declaring (see details below). Where: For Undergraduate Studies students, come to the front desk in 109 Miller Hall. All other students should go to the office of their current college to begin the major change process. What: Bring your UK student ID with you. We must see this to release your records. Also, if you have been permitted into a selective major, bring your admission notice. Proof of acceptance must be presented in order to receive your records. For Selective Admission Colleges: 1. College of Business & Economics How to apply - Complete the application process 2. College of Communications and Information How to apply - Go to 107 Grehan Journalism Building. Get application, fill it out, and turn it in. 3. College of Design
How to apply - Pre-majors are only admitted for the fall semester. Go to 108 Pence Hall or visit this page to get an application, fill it out, and turn it in by the February deadline (see web site for exact date).
How to apply - You must take a placement exam to enter this major. The Architecture exam is offered once a year in March. Visit this page for current information. 4. College of Agriculture Landscape Architecture You must take a placement exam to enter this major. The Landscape Architecture exam is offered throughout the year on an individual basis. Visit the UK Landscape Architechture Program for current information. 5. College of Engineering Before you apply - You may apply for pre-major status if you have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher, "C" or higher in MA 113, AND "C" or higher in engineering pre-major courses. 6. College of Nursing How to apply - Students with earned UK credit and transfer students should go to 315 Nursing Building and meet with a Nursing Advisor to discuss your academic plan. True freshman will wait until their first semester grades are posted before speaking with a Nursing Advisor. |
