UK Student Veteran Duke Pettit
Receives Brent Scholarship

On 11 April 2011, Duke Pettit was awarded the Brent Scholarship by the University of Kentucky for his academic achievement. Duke is a Political Science major and active with the student veteran organization. He is also an avid rugby player. Congratulations Duke!

The Brent Scholarship was established by the Brent Family in memory of their son Michael Brent. Michael was paralyzed (quadriplegic at 18 years old) after a car accident in 1997. Despite the many challenges he faced, he "rose to the occasion and became a source of encouragement and strength to those who knew him." Michael was a superior student and received his bachelor's degree at UK and was days away from being awarded him masters when he died unexpectedly in 2007.

The recipient must be registered with the Disability Resource Center and preference given to full-time students and to those with spinal cord injuries. Additionally, academic prowess and and personal qualities that are an inspiration to others are considered.
