In fall 2008, as a project for her Master's Degree in Library and Information Science, Vaughan Fielder created an archive of previous conference materials for the Special Collections Department at the University of Kentucky. This process included weeding through 30 years of conference planning paperwork, administrative paperwork, budgets, reports, video tapes, cassette tapes, CDs, photographs, materials distributed to participants, DVDs, and more. The work included assembling the holdings from Special Collections, the Carnegie Center, and the attic of the Gaines Center into one collection. Many materials were unnecessary to preserve (about 4 cubic feet), and many were disordered. At the end of this semester-long process, Fielder ended up with 9 cubic feet of conference materials, a thorough inventory, and a finding aid for the collection. The collection will be stored in Room 019 of the Little Fine Arts Library, which is a temperature- and humidity-controlled environment. It is available to researchers by appointment. In its current state, the physical materials from previous conferences are now safely stored and much more accessible, but the collection itself has not been digitized or published online. For more information on the archival efforts of the conference, contact Program Coordinator Vaughan Fielder at wwk.info@gmail.com The Finding Aid and Collection Description are available through the Kentuckiana Digital Library. Through this web site, you may access the records for the Kentucky Women Writers Conference archives online.
