Laura Benedict's essays and short stories exploring the darker side of life have appeared in Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine and a number of anthologies including Surreal South: An Anthology of Short Fiction and Poetry, which she edited with her husband, Pinckney Benedict. Ballantine Books published her debut novel, a thriller entitled Isabella Moon, in 2007; a second thriller, Calling Mr. Lonely Hearts, will be released on December 30, 2008. For the past decade, she has reviewed books for The Grand Rapids Press in Michigan. She claims both Cincinnati, Ohio, and, Louisville, Kentucky, as her hometowns, and currently resides in Southern Illinois, a lonely, enchanted sort of place that offers excellent inspiration for writing thrillers.
