Exercise 2: Create & Display Basic HTML Document

Open Netscape and Your Text Editor
- resize the windows and align side by side (In Windows it may be easier to minimize the Program Manager and any other open windows first)

Type HTML Document in Your Text Editor

          <HTML>
          <HEAD>
          <TITLE>Web Publishing</TITLE>
          </HEAD>
          
          <BODY>
          <H2>Web Publishing Exercise</H2>
          Congratulations! You're writing HTML! 
          </BODY> 
          </HTML>

Save Text File
- save with a .html extension (.htm for Windows)
Open File in Netscape
- Select the FILE menu in Netscape
- Select the third option: Open File
- Select your .html or .htm file
  - you may need to change drives or directoriess to find your file
- Click OK

You should see your HTML file displayed in Netscape. If not, try saving your file once again in your text editor with an .html extension (.htm for Windows) and open again in Netscape.

Exercise 3: Create Links

Open Your HTML File in Your Text Editor
Create Remote Site Link

This small image is linked to a larger image. Copy both images to your hard drive or floppy disk for use in the following exercises:
1. Place your cursor on the image. MAC users hold down the mouse button until a small menu appears. Windows users click the right mouse button for the menu to appear.
2. Select the Save this image as... option from this menu.
3. Save to your desktop, hard drive, or floppy disk.
4. Place your cursor back on the image and click once to link to the larger image.
5. Repeat steps 1-3. Use the images for the following exercises.
