Many Internet applications, including FTP, TELNET, GOPHER, and WWW, operate according to this model.
Client/server provides for a division of labor among networked computers.
A single file on the server can be distributed to clients on different platforms.
Client and server machines use different software. WWW clients use "browser" software, like Netscape, Mosaic, Lynx.
Not all client and server software is created equal. Some browsers and servers have added features.
"Helper" applications may not be available for all client platforms.
Connection and transmission time can be an issue. Smaller files transmit faster.
