On Monday, March 26th, KWRRI presented the 2007 Robert A. Lauderdale Award for Outstanding Contributions in Water Quality to Judith Petersen.

As Director of the Kentucky Waterways Alliance since 1997, Ms. Petersen is a leader on water quality policy issues around the southeast. Her efforts in Kentucky include leadership of one of the state's foremost citizens' organizations concerned with water quality. In addition, Ms. Petersen is working with River Network to lead a Clean Water Act citizens training program in Kentucky.

She has been an active participant in southeast and national clean water policy forums for many years and has been key in organizing Kentucky's own Watershed Roundtables. From 2001 to 2006, she served on the Board of Directors for the newly formed Southeast Watershed Forum. Ms. Petersen also has served as Board Secretary of the Forum, as well as on the Advisory Board of Western Kentucky University's Center for Water Resource Studies. Currently, she chairs the Water Quality Standards Workgroup of the Mississippi River Basin Collaborative.

The Lauderdale Award was established in 2006 to honor the individuals who have worked diligently to improve the Commonwealth's water quality. The award ceremony took place at the Annual KWRRI Symposium in Lexington, Kentucky.
