Moving on

Dr. Lyle V. A. Sendlein, Director of the KWRRI and Professor of Geological Sciences retired from the University of Kentucky August 31, 1998. Dr. Sendlein came to UK in August 1982 as the Director of the Institute for Mining and Mineral Research (IMMR) and Professor of Geological Sciences. He was appointed Acting Director of the KWRRI in 1992, and he was named the Director of the Institute in 1994, when IMMR was phased out.

The KWRRI has experienced great growth in staff and budget under his leadership. Several new programs were added and the staff grew to more than 35 individuals and the operating budget reached $2.6 million. Through his efforts more faculty and research staff became involved with more state technical professionals then ever before. The interaction was positive for both the university and state government.

Dr. Sendlein has moved to his residence in the Florida Keys. He can be reached at: sendlein@mail.terranova.net.
