EXPERTISE
As KWRRI Communications Director, Anna oversees a number of public information activities for KWRRI, including website development/management, creation of public relations and communications materials, and, along with program director Stephanie Jenkins, event coordination. Anna also serves on the University of Kentucky Superfund Research Program (UK-SRP) Research Translation Core (RTC) and acts as RTC liaison to the UK-SRP Community Outreach Core.
In addition to public information activities, Anna coordinates a number of communications-related social scientific research initiatives for KWRRI. Specifically, she assists with the design and implementation of projects linking environmental concerns with risk and public communication processes. She also develops research projects and programs intended to further the bench-to-bedside translation of environmental health research outcomes into policy, practice, and ultimately public health, through the development of theory-based, methodologically-rigorous communication interventions at the researcher, governmental, and/or community levels.
Previously, Anna served as communications specialist with UK's Tracy Farmer Center for the Environment (TFCE), where she coordinated a number of public information and community engagement activities, including an EPA-funded community sustainability conference and a re-development of the TFCE website. She also served as chair of the Bluegrass Partnership for a Green Community's Outreach and Communication Team and was a member of the Bluegrass Energy Expo steering committee. Prior to her time with TFCE, Anna served as assistant to the managing director with MacLellan Integrated Services, an international industrial services organization. She first came to Lexington as marketing and events coordinator for the Lexington Arts and Cultural Council, where she oversaw public relations efforts, organized local and regional arts events, and was a member of the state's Arts Education Showcase steering committee. Anna previously served as communications/editorial assistant with her alma mater's Office of Communication and began her career in broadcast media.
A member of the National Communication Association, as well as Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Alpha Theta national honor societies, Anna is a cum laude graduate of Centre College. She holds a master's degree in communication science with an emphasis in health communication from the University of Kentucky. Her research interest lies in introducing participatory communication methods into governmental public engagement processes to improve environmental health outcomes for underserved communities.
