RESEARCH INTEREST AND EXPERTISE
Since joining the faculty of the University of Kentucky in 1983, Dr. Ormsbee has been actively engaged in research, teaching, and consulting in water resources and environmental engineering and has published more than 150 technical papers and reports on various topics in this field. Dr. Ormsbee's research interests include: Mathematical Modeling of Hydraulics and Hydrologic Systems, GIS/Simulation Model Interface/Environmental Informatics, Water Supply Planning, Watershed Management, Genetic Algorithms/Artificial Neural Networks, Water Distribution Network Modeling, TMDL Modeling and Methodologies, Operations Research/Systems Analysis.
Dr. Ormsbee's current research efforts are directed toward the application of artificial intelligence methods to complex problems in water resources. Over the last 23 years, Dr. Ormsbee's research program has generated over 10 million dollars in external contracts from such agencies as the National Science Foundation, NOAA, the U.S. Geological Survey, the U.S. Army, the U.S. Department of Energy, the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
