The mission of the Division of Communication Sciences and Disorders is to serve the citizens of Kentucky and beyond by preparing graduates with the knowledge and skills needed to provide quality clinical services and assume leadership roles; by serving the community and the professions through provision of evidence-based clinical services, continuing education, and exchange of information among practitioners in communication disorders; and by promoting, conducting, and supporting research that contributes to the understanding and management of persons with communication disorders.

Master's Program Description

The Division of Communication Sciences & Disorders at the University of Kentucky offers a two-year master’s degree program in speech-language pathology. The program is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Students who complete the program will typically meet the academic and clinical training requirements for the American SpeechLanguage-Hearing Association’s (ASHA) Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology and for licensure in Kentucky and in most states with licensure requirements. 

Master's Application Requirements

  • CV - A Professional CV is required and should include academic accomplishments, volunteerism, observation experiences, research experiences, and international/multicultural experiences.
  • Personal Statement - Your personal statement serves as your writing sample. Please indicate why you have chosen to apply to the University of Kentucky’s Program in Communication Sciences and Disorders and why you believe you are an excellent candidate for UK’s Program. Also write about any unique experiences you have participated in such as research, international, or multicultural experiences.
  • GRE
  • Applicants should indicate by choosing the appropriate “Program Specific Information” dropdown box under “Program” whether they hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Communication (Sciences) & Disorders, Speech Pathology or Speech-Language Pathology, or whether they are a “prerequisite student” with a Bachelor’s degree in another field of study. Applicants who already hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Communication (Sciences) & Disorders, etc. enter the Master’s Program in the Summer 2 Session.

Fall Deadline: January 15 for Fall Admission (Only for students with a Bachelor’s degree in a field other than Speech Pathology).

Summer Deadline: January 15 for Summer 2 Admission (Only for students with a Bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences & Disorders/Speech Pathology)
