Elizabeth Dunn is majoring in Psychology and minoring in Spanish. She is doing research to determine the effect of a defendant's demeanor on the verdict rendered by mock jurors in a child sexual abuse case. Her mentor is Jonathan Golding of the Psychology department.

Shady El-Maraghi is a Biology and French double major. He is examining the effects of environmental enrichment on drug addiction, specifically looking at rat models and cocaine. His mentor is Michael Bardo in the Psychology department.

Laura Feder is majoring in Kinesiology. She is conducting glucose and insulin tests to discover whether or not Type II Diabetes affects the cells of the brain, which could potentially contribute to Alzheimer's Disease and dementia. Her mentor is Olivier Thibault in the department of Molecular and Biomedical Pharmacology.

Eric Gilland is a double major in Chemistry and Biology. He is relating the structure of transcription factors to human disease. He will use x-ray crystallographic methods to determine and analyze the structure of transcription factor FoxO 1 which plays pivotal roles in many metabolic processes. His mentor is Young-In Chi in the department of Biochemistry.

Philip Houtz is an Agricultural Biotechnology major. He is analyzing a specific cypovirus and its capability to infect and induce mortality in Campoletis sonorensis larvae within the Heliothis virescens host. His mentor is Bruce Webb in the Department of Entomology.

He is creating a survey to distribute among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, and ally students at UK to measure suicide awareness, knowledge, and attitudes. Zachary Willand is an Agricultural Biotechnology major. He is investigating genetic variation in the gag gene which encodes the major viral core proteins. His mentors are Charles Issel and R. Frank Cook in the Department of Veterinary Sciences.

Fei Xiong

Fei Xiong is a Biology major. She is studying Neuropeptidase conformation with flouescence polarization. A special fluorescent probe will be bound to the enzyme, and changes will result in changes in rotational speed which will be detected by polarization. Her mentor is David Rodgers in the department of Biochemistry.
