Steven Chapman 

My name is Steven Chapman and, I am a senior chemistry major from Hopkinsville, Kentucky. I am a Chellgren Fellow, and I began organic chemistry synthesis research my sophomore year under Prof. Susan Odom. During the summer of 2014, I started materials chemistry research at Penn State University. In addition to research, I am passionate about DanceBlue and serve on the morale committee. Along with being active in the community service organization, Alpha Phi Omega, I am a black belt in tae-kwon-do and enjoy tennis. After graduation, I plan on either going through dental school for orthodontics or going to graduate school to continue chemistry research.

Sabita Dumre

My name is Sabita Dumre and I am a junior biology pre-med major from Lexington, KY. I hope to one day become a physician and serve underdeveloped countries. I am a Chellgren Fellow, and through that program I got involved in undergraduate research in Dr. Bradley's lab in the Anatomy and Neurobiology department in the college of medicine. The summer of 2015 I was awarded a fellowship from the office of Undergraduate Research and had the optimal opportunity to move forward with my research with protein peptides in Dr. Bradley's lab. I serve as the treasurer for the Pre-Med Society. I am member of the Multicultural Association of Pre-Health students, and   I am also a member of the first scholars program. I enjoy being outdoors and playing various sports such as, swimming and volleyball. I love traveling as well. In the near future I plan to attend medical school.

Taylor Elder 

My name is Taylor Elder and I am originally from Kent, Ohio. I am currently a junior here at UK who is pursuing a double major in Psychology and Kinesiology. My area of interest is sports psychology, which I hope to one day make my career. As a former Chellgren Fellow I worked in Dr. Segerstrom’s lab that focused on predicting self-perceived cognitive functioning in older adults. Over this past summer I volunteered at Kent State University in Dr. Spitznagel’s neuroscience lab. In my free time I volunteer at the Ronald McDonald Family Room located in the Kentucky hospital.

Adam Miller 

My name is Adam Miller and I am a senior Business Management Major from Middlesboro, Kentucky. On campus I am involved in the Accounting Club, Phi Kappa Psi, Wildcat Investors, and I’m a First Scholar. I am a First Generation college student and am very involved in the office of First Generation Initiatives. My sophomore year I was a peer mentor in the First Gen LLP and an intramural football and basketball official. I wish I still had time to ref now because I loved it. I am currently an intern for Speedway LLC and Recycle-A-Textbook. In the Spring, I will be doing an internship at Northwestern Mutual so I am a licensed Life and Health insurance agent in Kentucky.  I enjoy playing tennis, watching football by that I mean the Philadelphia Eagles, and trying get-rich-quick schemes. I love playing chess and accept any challengers!

Rachel Mowl 

My name is Rachel Mowl and I am from Burlington, KY. I am a junior Human Health Sciences pre-med major and studying biological sciences as a minor. I hope to one day become a physician in obstetrics to focus my career on prenatal and postpartum care. I am currently a certified nursing assistant pursuing a position at a local hospital. Besides being a Student Outreach Team member, I am also an active member on the Club Softball team. I came to UK as a First Generation Student receiving a scholarship through the First Scholars program. When I have free time, I enjoy participating in a variety of sports and riding roller coasters at amusement parks across the country. I am a passionate fanatic of the Kentucky Wildcats and the Cincinnati Reds.  

Katelyn Sandell 

My name is Katelyn Sandell and I am a senior biochemistry pre-med major originally from Louisville, KY. I hope to one day become a doctor practicing rural medicine in the Appalachian region. I became involved in undergraduate research my sophomore year in Dr. Atwood’s lab in the department of chemistry and am a Chellgren Student Fellow. Throughout my time at UK, I have been fortunate enough to pursue my dream of traveling across the world on a medical mission trip to Kodiakanal, India and a study abroad experience throughout Italy and Paris. I am also a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, and a FUSION site leader. In my free time, I love to volunteer around the Lexington community, read, and hang out with friends.

Becca Schladt 

My name is Rebecca Schladt, and I am a junior from Lexington, KY. I am majoring in Civil Engineering with a minor in Anthropology. Through the Chellgren Student Fellowship, I combined my two interests in a research project conducted under Dr. Crothers in the Department of Anthropology, studying historic pipelines within Mammoth Cave. During the summer of 2015, I traveled to Wales to participate in a student archaeological dig on an Iron Age hillfort, and in the future, I would love to be running such a site. Outside of my studies, I enjoy participating in marathons and doing needlepoint.

Brenton Smith 

My name is Brenton Smith, and I am from Corbin, Kentucky. I am a senior pursuing dual degrees in Economics and Mass & Digital Communication. I am a Chellgren Fellow, and through that program got involved in undergraduate research. I did research with Dr. Alan DeSantis in the Department of Communication on undergraduate perceptions of ADHD stimulant abuse and the identification and analysis of the thematic trends of modern rap music. In addition to my involvement on campus, I work for Operation UNITE to aid in fighting drug abuse in my home 5th Congressional District, which makes up most of Eastern Kentucky. I am a passionate University of Kentucky Wildcats fan, and in addition to supporting all athletic events, my spare time is spent enjoying film, reading, and appreciating the outdoors.

Jay Van Doorn 

My name is Jay Van Doorn and I am from Clarksville, Tennessee.  I am currently a senior and pursuing a double major in Biology and Mathematical Sciences with minors in Neuroscience and Cognitive Science. I am working toward the goal of a PhD in Computational Neuroscience for a career in research. I am a Chellgren Fellow and am involved in undergraduate research under Dr. Diane Snow in the Spinal Cord and Brain Injury Research Center.  My research involves treatments that could vastly improve the quality of life for those with spinal cord and brain injuries.  When I am not wholly involved in my education I also enjoy a broad range of sports, frequently volunteer for charity events, and appreciate and amuse myself with the arts.

Jacob Westover 

My name is Jacob Westover and I'm a junior studying communications while completing the undergraduate certificate in leadership studies at the University of Kentucky. I one day hope to get my masters and possibly my PhD in higher education, so that I can work at a University either teaching or working in Admissions. I also work as a Visitor Center Tour Guide and Orientation Leader. I am also a first generation student.
