Established to honor Edward T. Breathitt, an eminent Kentuckian (Governor of KY, 1963-67) and an outstanding alumnus of the University of Kentucky whose interest in higher education and the humanities was exceptional, this lectureship is awarded to an undergraduate whose qualities of mind and spirit have been expressed eloquently on one or more of the basic concerns of the humanities: form, value, and memory. All University of Kentucky students are eligible to apply for the Lectureship.

The 2014 Breathitt Lecture will be held at 7pm, Thursday, January 30, 2014 in the W. T. Young Library auditorium.

The selected lecturer will be notified in mid December, allowing at least a month for the preparation and practice of the presentation.
The lecture will be recorded and archived in UKnowledge.
A reception follows the lecture.
The Edward T. Breathitt Undergraduate Lecturer receives a special award and an honorarium of $500.
