Kelsey Carew serves as the First Generation Living Learning Community (1G LLC) Student Advisor. In her role, she works directly with the 1G LLC students and staff to offer various workshops, study groups, community service opportunities and bi-yearly retreats. Kelsey also assists the Director of First Generation Initiatives, Matthew Deffendall, to carry out initiatives set forth for all other first generation programs campus-wide.
Prior to coming to the University of Kentucky, Kelsey served as an older youth services case manager in Bloomington, IN in which she worked with young adults involved with the foster care system to aid in their transition into adult life. She spent three years with the Indiana University Women’s Volleyball team as the director of volleyball operations.
Originally from Cincinnati, Kelsey earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology and master’s degree in adult and higher education from Morehead State University where she played volleyball and coached throughout her time there. Kelsey and her husband Peter reside in Lexington with their two dogs Annie and Bruce.
