The University of Kentucky Office of First Generation Initiatives has announced the application for the First Scholars Program. Open to incoming, full-time freshmen who are first-generation college students (defined as “parents have no more than two years of education beyond high school and no post-secondary degree”), the First Scholars Program is a renewable financial award.
First Scholars is a comprehensive program created specifically to address the holistic development of first-generation students throughout their undergraduate college experience at the University of Kentucky. The program addresses the unique challenges first generation students face.
Students will remain in the program and continue to receive the award for an additional 3 years as long as they meet the eligibility and participation requirements.
Students who apply to The First Scholars Program must:
Scholars will receive $5,000 scholarships over four years for a total of $20,000, in addition to the social, academic and leadership activities designed to guide scholars through key transitions pivotal to their success.
High school seniors should apply for the program by submitting all materials by December 1, 2014.
The First Scholars Program is an affiliate of the national First Scholars Network of the Suder Foundation and is a program within the Office of First Generation Initiatives, which is part of the Academy for Undergraduate Excellence within the Division of Undergraduate Education at UK.
