Nominee Selection

The campus nomination process narrows the pool of applicants to a select student or group of students who will represent UK in a national award competition. After a student is selected as a nominee, there is a period of time to modify application materials and practice interview skills before the national deadline. The scholarship advising and application process requires time and commitment from you, but the preparation is well worth the investment of your time and energy.

Expectations if selected as a nominee:

Revise Materials: Nominees are expected to work with Dr. Whitlow to strengthen the overall applications, using the feedback from the campus review committee. This includes, but is not limited to, revising essays, personal statements, letters of recommendation, and resumes.

Complete PR Form: The Office of Nationally Competitive Awards publishes articles to recognize students who achieve success in the scholarship application process. To ensure a timely release of articles, students are requested to complete a PR form and provide a headshot, at the time of award nomination. We can assist you in taking a photograph if you do not have a suitable one. Click here to access the PR form.

Attend Practice Interviews: Many scholarships for which students apply include an interview during the national selection process. Practice interviews at the campus level allow nominees to prepare for potential questions and reduce the “nervous” factor.
