The University of Kentucky Advanced Genetic Technologies Center (UK-AGTC) is a DNA sequencing service center/core facility specializing in high-throughput genetic analysis with a strong emphasis on customer service and bioinformatics support. This Service Center complements other campus facilities devoted to transcriptomics, proteomics, bioinformatics and structural biology and serves research clients both on and off campus. AGTC enhances the visibility of UK in the modern genomics world while providing a nucleus to integrate biological research entities throughout the institution itself, thus reducing the University's need for outsourcing. AGTC provides a key element in the vision of UK as a Top 20 research institution and a center of excellence in molecular biosciences. The initiation of the AGTC at the University of Kentucky was made possible by Senator Mitch McConnell through USDA-CSREES grants to the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture. The UK-AGTC has also benefited from support from the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the UK College of Agriculture, the NSF KY EPSCoR program and the Kentucky Biomedical Research Infrastructure Network (KBRIN).
