Congratulations to Megan Swintosky

Congratulations to Megan Swintosky, an 8th grader from Penn View Middle school Pennsylvania.  Megan performed her science fair project at AGTC and was successful in identifying novel mutations in the folliculin gene, as a possible cause of Spontaneous Pneumothorax disease.  Her project won first place in Biochemistry and best overall project in the Delaware-New Jersey-Pennsylvania Tri-state science fair.  In addition, as a 2012 Broadcomm MASTERS semifinalist (based on last year’s project - also performed at AGTC), she received a special invitation to enter the Disney Iron Man 3 Inventor and Innovation Fair.  She advanced through the competition to become one of only 12 students invited to the competition’s final in Los Angeles, California.  There she obviously impressed the judges and was selected as one of the four Grand Prize winners.  As a bonus, she got to meet the Iron Man himself, Robert Downey Jr.

Here is a link to a YouTube video showing some highlights of the Iron Man 3 competition.

Thanks to Melanie Heist and Jenny Webb for supervising Megan during her time at AGTC.
