New Faculty Teaching Academy: Faculty Panel on Teaching Large Classes

Event Location:
Niles Gallery, Lucille Little Fine Arts Library
Event Date:
Wednesday, March 8, 2017 - 3:00pm

Workshop concludes at 4:00.

What are the challenges and possible solutions inherent in teaching a large class? Some of the management, logistical, and pedagogical issues are unique to large classes and others are common, but amplified. What constitutes a "large class" is relative and depends, in part, on the instructor's perceptions. It could be a class with a very large number of students (e.g., more than 100) or a class that has experienced a significant increase in enrollment (e.g., a jump from 20 students to 60) and now poses new course management challenges for the instructor. A panel of faculty who teach large classes will share some of their challenges and solutions.

This workshop is part of the New Faculty Teaching Academy series designed to provide new faculty with basic information that will contribute to a successful start at UK. However, all instructional populations are welcomed to attend.

Coffee, water, and light snacks will be provided.
