Service-Learning: Social Media & Student Reflection
In this 90-minute workshop, Dr. Christopher S. Rice will discuss how he and other instructors are using social media and web 2.0 tools - from Twitter to Facebook, from Wordpress to Pinterest, from Google Apps to Tumblr - to drive increased student engagement and reflection, in class and out, online and face-to-face.
This workshop has been broken into five sections for easier viewing.
In Part 1 Dr. Rice provides a brief introduction to the workshop and discusses how tools like Poll Everywhere and Clickers can be used to increase class discussion and student engagement.
In Part 2 Dr. Rice discusses how he and other instructors are using social media and web 2.0 tools such as Twitter and activity streams in the classroom.
In Part 3 Dr. Rice discusses how he and other instructors are using tools such as Facebook, Google+ and Google Hangouts in the classroom.
In Part 4 of his 90-minute workshop, Dr. Christopher S. Rice discusses how he and other instructors are using social media and web 2.0 tools such as Google Docs for activities like Think-Pair-Share, Minute Papers, Powerpoint Co-Construction, Powerpoint Karaoke, and Storytelling.
