(Mosiro-Itajura Private Natural Reserve)

The Mosiro-Itajura (Caparú) Natural Reserve is located in the area of the lower Apaporis and Caquetá rivers. It is important because there is a lot of Colombian natural richness, and it is also the homeland of many indigenous ethnic groups. The Natural Reserve is located beside the Taraira lake (ancient origin of the Apaporis river) in the south of the Yaigojé-Apaporis indigenous community. Caparú was created in 1983; since then, the Reserve has accomplished an important task in the conservation of the natural resources of the area. There have been carried out several investigations related with the life of plants and animals, and there have been mainly studies of primates in their natural state. Its high level of conservation, its systems of trails and the rain and temperature data taken during several years make it a perfect place to carry out investigations of animals and plants. The average annual temperature is 27°C, the coldest month is July, when the temperature can fall to 20° or 22°C. The warmest month is October with temperatures as high as 32° or 35°C. The rain season of Brazil is in July, when during three or four days the temperatures fall to 14° C during daytime and 8°C in the night. In the amazon region it rains very much the whole year long, with a yearly average between 3300 and 3950 millimeters.
