25. PNN Sumapaz
(Sumapaz National Natural Park)
PNN Sumapaz home site (Espaņol)
This park is located in the southern part of the
country. Belongs to the department of Amazonas,
Municipios of Leticia and Puerto Nariņo. Its has
293.500 hectareas and it is about 100m over sea level.
The average temperature is of 27ēC. The park
was erected to protect representative areas of the
amazon forest, it has different ecosystems as mainland
forests, floodable forests, marshes and a complex
system of rivers and creeks. There are about 150
species of mammals, several of them are endangered
species such as the jaguar (Panthera onca), danta (Tapyrus
sp.) and the pink dolphin or Tucuxi (Sotalia
fluviatilis). Also, there are more than 500 species of
birds. Some amerindian cultures live in the area.
