Staying Sharp: Ask the Experts about Keeping your Brain Young

Expert panelists from the University of Kentucky Sanders-Brown Center on Aging, in conjunction with the Dana Alliance for Brain Initiatives, hosted a discussion and Q&A session on the aging brain, memory, and brain health issues.

Sullenberger to Speak at UK Sanders-Brown Center on Aging Foundation's Annual Dinner

Heroic US Airways pilot Capt. Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger will headline the 26th Annual UK Sanders-Brown Center on Aging Foundation Dinner set for Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at the Lexington Convention Center Bluegrass Ballroom.  All proceeds from the dinner will go to support research, education/outreach and clinical programs at the UK Sanders-Brown Center on Aging (SBCoA).

Increased Alzheimer's Numbers Causing 'Looming Crisis'

In Kentucky, 11,430 people with Alzheimer's live without someone designated as their caregiver, and that number is likely to rise as the number of people with the disease continues to grow.

A national report released Wednesday by the Alzheimer's Association predicted a 31 percent increase in the number of Alzheimer patients in Kentucky. The national report says some 97,000 Kentuckians will be diagnosed with the disease by 2025.

“People need to constantly be reminded,” said Dr. Gregory Jicha of the Sanders- Brown Center on Aging at the University of Kentucky. “Otherwise, we do have a tendency to just put our brain health on a back burner.”

 

Sanders-Brown and Kentucky TeleCare Bring Memory Disorder Care to Patients Throughout Kentucky

Kentucky TeleCare enables experts from the UK Sanders-Brown Center on Aging to conduct memory care appointments with patients throughout Kentucky. Physicians affiliated with the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging use telemedicine to work with health care professionals and patients at Harlan Appalachian Regional Health, the Hazard Center for Rural health, T.J. Sampson Hospital in Glasgow, Trover Clinic in Madisonville, Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Owensboro Medical Center and all of the St. Claire Hospital facilities.
