Ansari Receives $100k Grant from Alzheimer's Association

Mubeen Ansari, a University of Kentucky Sanders-Brown Center on Aging scientist, has received a $100,000 grant from the Alzheimer's Association. The New Investigator Research grant is awarded with the goal of advancing the understanding of Alzheimer's disease, helping to identify new treatment strategies, providing information to improve care for people with dementia and furthering knowledge of brain health and disease prevention.

Spinoff Licensed to Develop Alzheimer's Treatment

CoPlex Therapeutics has signed an exclusive global license agreement with Hawthorn Pharmaceuticals to develop and commercialize hawAD14, a preclinical oral small molecule candidate for the treatment of Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases.

CoPlex co-founder and CEO John Beran said, “University of Kentucky researchers and CoPlex founding scientists Mark Lovell and Bert Lynn discovered an aberrant protein complex linked to Alzheimer’s which gave them a unique approach to begin to interrupt pathogenic mechanisms associated with the disease.

University of Kentucky researchers and clinicians from the UK Sanders-Brown Center on Aging will present an update on Alzheimer's disease at the Tates Creek branch of the Lexington Public Library on Sept. 21 at 6:30 p.m. The event will be in commemoration of World Alzheimer's Day.

Memory Café Offers Creative Outlet and Socialization for People with Dementia

A new program will offer creative enrichment and socialization for individuals with memory problems and their caregivers. Beginning Oct. 10, the University of Kentucky Sanders-Brown Center on Aging will sponsor a monthly "Memory Café" at the Living Arts and Science Center in Lexington.

Sanders-Brown Receives $7 Million for Alzheimer's Research

University of Kentucky officials announced today that the UK Sanders-Brown Center on Aging (SBCoA) Alzheimer's Disease Center (ADC) is receiving more than $7 million from the National Institute on Aging (NIA), a division of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), to continue and further research and clinical initiatives geared toward treating Alzheimer's disease.
