The COBRE
The thematic focus of the Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) is on understanding the molecular basis of human disease. There are five scientific projects and three pilot projects supported by six cores: the Administrative, Proteomics, Protein Analytical, Imaging, Viral, and Organic Synthesis cores.
This COBRE supports junior faculty research and mentoring focusing on elucidating the underlying molecular basis of human disease with a particular emphasis on cancer, diabetes, and neurodegenerative disease. The longterm goals include (i) enhancing multidisciplinary research on the study of human disease, (ii) enhancing research competitiveness of junior faculty who serve as principal investigators on research projects and pilot projects, and (iii) building, strengthening, and creating new core facilities to enhance the research capabilities of the principal investigators, their co-investigators, and researchers throughout the University of Kentucky and elsewhere.
