Community of Concern Team Process
The CoC Team meets weekly during the fall and spring semesters and as needed at other times of the year. The team reviews the submitted alerts, discusses and determines appropriate outreach/intervention. Referrals are then made to the appropriate department or agency. The CoC Director provides liaison and follow-up as needed and maintains documentation of alert submissions, outreach, and referrals.
The Alert system and CoC process is not meant to replace individual interventions by faculty, staff and/or supervisors. The CoC process should be used if other direct methods have been tried and found unsuccessful!
The team will share the identity of the individual so that others will be aware of the person's needs and may initiate assistance.
Team and community members may consult with one another about appropriate strategies for assisting the individual.
The team will agree upon a plan of action to ensure various university personnel are taking a consistent approach.
Participants will identify a point person to coordinate the assistance that a particular person may receive.
Team will also determine who needs to have information about a particular individual while seeking to balance both privacy and the need for an effective response that seeks to ensure the safety of all involved.
