I got a letter from the CoC. Am I in trouble?
Faculty, Staff, and Students can submit an alert to the Community of Concern when they are concerned about the wellbeing of a student. The Community of Concern is a not a disciplinary arm of the University of Kentucky. The Community of Concern works with students to among other things
Discuss current concerns the student has
Develop an action plan for success
Discuss behavioral expectations
Discuss possible consequences for continued behavioral disturbances
Is the person who submitted a report angry with me?
The faculty, staff, or student that submitted an alert is concerned about you and wants the Community of Concern to be a resource to assist you in being successful.
I want to apply for a student leadership position. Will this CoC report hurt my student record?
Your meeting with the Community of Concern will not be disclosed to student organization leaders or advisors.
Will this report be listed on my transcript?
No, the Community of Concern report will not be listed on your transcript.
Ok, so I plan to attend my CoC meeting. Is this a hearing and will I be sanctioned?
The Community of Concern is a not a disciplinary arm of the University of Kentucky. The Community of Concern meeting is not a hearing and you will not receive a sanction. We will discuss recent events that we have been made aware of and ask you to share your version of events. Afterwards, we will create an action plan for success.
My letter listed a date and time for a meeting. I have a commitment during that time. What should I do?
Please email the staff member that scheduled your meeting and request to reschedule. You can also call the Dean of Students office at 859-257-3755 to let us know of your scheduling conflict and request a new meeting date and time.
Will my parents know that I met with the CoC?
Parents are only notified by the Community of Concern under limited circumstances per FERPA §99.36. In the majority of instances, the Community of Concern will only communicate with parents if the student has completed a FERPA release form with the Dean of Students Office.
What if I don’t attend my CoC meeting?
Depending on the information included in the report and the type of concern expressed the Community of Concern may reschedule your meeting or ask you to call a staff member for a phone meeting.
I received a letter that listed campus resources, however; I was not asked to meet. What should I do?
The Community of Concern provided these resources out of a belief that these resources may assist you in being successful at UK. We encourage you to reach out to the referenced resources to schedule a meeting. If you would like to discuss the resources that were provided to you or discuss additional concerns, you may contact the staff member that sent you the letter to request a meeting.

Certainly! Please contact the staff member that sent you the letter or contact the Dean of Students Office at 859-257-3755 to schedule a meeting.
I met with a staff member in the past and would like to follow-up. As a student, can I contact the CoC to schedule a follow-up?
Yes. If you have met with a staff member in the past and would like to follow-up you are encouraged to contact the staff member with whom you met to request another meeting.
