GREGORY A. LUHAN, AIA, RA, NCARB
e-mail: gregory.luhan@uky.edu
Gregory A. Luhan is the Associate Dean for Research at the University of Kentucky-College of Design and an Associate Professor in the School of Architecture where he teaches digital studio and seminars on design theory and computing. Prior to teaching in Kentucky he worked for the New York City architecture firms Edward Larrabee Barnes, Peter Eisenman, Charles Gwathmey, and Agrest & Gandelsonas after graduating from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and Princeton University. His professional research centers on the design, fabrication, and assemblage of flexible systems, which has produced a variety of award-winning “art to part” installation-based and residential-scaled projects that have been exhibited worldwide, including the first LEED Silver Certified House in Kentucky, entitled the Resonance House and the University of Kentucky’s Ninth Place entry to the 2009 Solar Decathlon in Washington DC.

Luhan’s research has garnered international awards and Best Paper Awards including the Primios a las Mejores Presentaciones in the category of Diseno Digital y Fabricacion at the IX (Ninth) Congreso Iberoamericano de Grafica Digital for his innovative uses of technology and instruction and his virtual models used for international competitions.

Luhan is an author, including Live.Light (ORO Editions, 2010); The Louisville Guide (Princeton Architectural Press, 2004) co-authored with David Mohney and Dennis Domer; curated The Digital Exchange with Kevin Klinger (ACADIA Publications, 2006); and edited Synthetic Landscapes with Mark Cabrinha, Cory Clarke, and Phillip Anzalone (ACADIA Publications, 2006). He is currently developing three book manuscripts: Digispeak (Taylor & Francis, 2012) featuring the collective contributions on digital terminology from several ACADIA members, Music That We See (ORO Editions, 2013), and The Modern House-Kentucky with Professor Clyde R. Carpenter that presents the use of advanced digital technology to represent these residential projects in light of their spatial metaphors through drawings, stereo-lithographic models, and short-form animations.
