The Office of the Associate Dean for Research provides support for the College of Design's research enterprise and oversight of its funded graduate programs.
The Office seeks to enhance the strength and viability of design research by identifying new research opportunities, developing collaborations, and establishing partnerships between faculty, research staff, government, design professionals, and industry.
The Office seeks to expand research incentives, including student assistant support and increased faculty release time and to establish and promote research initiatives through internally sponsored research programs. The College of Design encourages its faculty to engage in scholarly and research activities. While this research initiative funding process gives priority to junior faculty, all full-time faculty will be considered and therefore, are encouraged to apply.
The College of Design's faculty conducts substantive, innovative, and original research contributing to the theoretical and methodological foundation of the design world and disseminates this knowledge through teaching, publication, and practice.
The College's research focus is pluralistic in nature and presents an array of creative scholarship ranging from design competitions and commissions, peer-reviewed scholarly publications, applied research and design as well as funded research priorities are aligned with those identified by the Commonwealth of Kentucky's Office of the New Economy that afford Kentucky the best opportunity to build research excellence around which related research avenues can emerge and grow.
