Graduate Admissions

The Graduate Program of the School of Architecture at the University of Kentucky College of Design evaluates student portfolios for breadth and variety of media, scale, and subject matter. Within the limitations given in the application, the portfolio should demonstrate ability in areas of architectural design and communication. The graduate admissions committee will evaluate portfolios for competence in architectural design, coherent demonstration of visual and spatial abilities expressed through a basic understanding of material and construction, drawing ability, and the use of color in two-dimensional and three-dimensional work. Portfolios should present visual acuity and graphic abilities through paintings, drawings, prints, graphic design, or architectural drawings. We recommend that applicants include freehand drawings from direct observation as well as a selection of plans, sections, and elevations.
