St. Elizabeth Healthcare Hospice in Northern Kentucky partnered this year with The University of Kentucky College of Design to create a memorial sculpture made from a piece of steel salvaged from the World Trade Center towers. The St. Elizabeth World Trade Center Memorial will be unveiled on the 10th Anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy at the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption in Covington, KY. The Most Reverend Roger J. Foys, Bishop of Covington, will honor the region's first responders (fire, police and EMT) and formally bless the St. Elizabeth World Trade Center Memorial.

The design of the concrete base for the sculpture was chosen through a student design competition during the Spring 2011 semester. Architecture student Michael May's design was chosen and he received a cash prize. Graduate architecture students, Michael Mead and Ben Ward, under the direction of instructor, Rives Rash, built the base over the summer.

The St. Elizabeth World Trade Center Memorial will also be made available to churches, schools, civic organizations and the Northern Kentucky community for educational and commemorative events throughout the year.

No RSVP or ticket is required to attend this event.
