WaterStep, a nonprofit organization that works to save lives at risk from waterborne illness around the world, along with support from Louisville Water will host the first annual IF Water Conference, which will be held on Tuesday, September 18th from 9:00am-3:00pm at The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts in conjunction with the Idea Festival.
UK architecture students will present the year-long urban planning and studio project for the Louisville Water Company. The 2012 Idea Festival will kick off with a day-long conference about water usage on the local and global scales. Associate Dean of Research Greg Luhan will introduce the project taught by Freek Persyn / 51n4e in Brussels, Belgium, and 2012 Brown-Forman Chair in Urban Design, Elodie Nourigat / N+B Architects, Montpellier, France.
Over the course of the 2011-2012 academic year, students studied the Ohio River and its impact on Louisville and surrounding communities. They developed proposals to convert the area surrounding the historic Louisville water tower into a mixed-use facility that includes a water education center, concert and event venues, and a public park.
