A piece of steel I-beam from the World Trade Center arrived at Pence Hall on Wednesday, June 1. A concrete base for the I-beam will be constructed this summer under the direction of instructor, Rives Rash, by architecture students, Michael Mead and Ben Ward.
A "World Trade Center Steel Student Design Competition" was held earlier this year to select a design for the concrete base. Architecture student Michael May's design was chosen, he also received a five hundred dollar award.
The steel will be displayed at the St. Elizabeth Healthcare Hospice Center as a reminder of our ability to overcome difficult times and to inspire all those who receive care. The steel I-beam will also serve as the centerpiece for a region wide ceremony to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 disaster.
