Commercialization workshop series kicks off Oct. 13 with “Protecting your IP”
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 19, 2011)—UK research faculty and staff and community entrepreneurs are invited to learn more about intellectual property protection at the first of a five-part commercialization workshop series on Oct. 13 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Hilary J. Boone Center on UK's campus.
Mandy Decker from Stites & Harbison and Steve Hall of Stoll Keenon Ogden will present the processes of intellectual property protection. Also, panelists from local startup companies will offer their stories and insights about pursuing intellectual property protection.
The workshop series is designed to help scientists, engineers and other high tech professionals develop a business from their research. Future workshops will cover writing a business plan, accounting, seeking funding and using social media.
"We want to give researchers at UK and entrepreneurs in the community a toolbox of some of the key elements that are part of a successful technology company," said Warren Nash, director of the Lexington Innovation & Commercialization Center (ICC).
The series is sponsored by the Von Allmen Center for Entrepreneurship and its downtown office, the Lexington ICC, both part of UK's commercialization and economic development office. The first workshop is co-sponsored by the Kentucky BioAlliance.
