Equinext formed a partnership with Hagyard Equine Medical Institute to bring a medical device to the equine market to treat tendon and ligament injuries and Wobbler's Syndrome in horses and other animals. Equinext will use its chemically-made injectable reagent device on these lower leg strains and sprains, which are very common in all types of performance horses and have a high rate of reoccurrence. HiberNetics is identifying the clinical potential of opioid peptides, referred to as deltorphins, in treating stroke. Current research indicates that the use of these peptides within minutes to hours after a stroke can provide a dramatic new approach to neuroprotection. Nano-Mite, based on the research of Patrick G. Sullivan, with UK's Spinal Cord & Brain Injury Research Center (SCoBIRC) and the Department of Anatomy & Neurobiology, is focused on controlling obesity — in both humans and pets — using nanotechnology. Nano-Mite has developed, and is currently testing, a nanoscale medical device that serves as mitochondrial uncouplers to increase metabolism and result in weight loss.

WTT, founded in 1988, was based on the research of founders David Watt (College of Medicine, cellular and molecular biochemistry), Dan Tai (College of Pharmacy), and Tom Tobin (College of Agriculture, Gluck Equine Research Center). WTT developed enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA ) tests for drugs of abuse in race horses and dogs. They had developed 29 diagnostic tests before the company was sold to the international food and animal safety company, Neogen in 1991. Neogen’s Animal Safety Division is based in Lexington, Ky.
W-Z Biotech specializes in the development of novel medical devices for cardiopulmonary surgery and hyperthermia delivery systems for lung cancer therapy. The company was founded in 2009 by Dr. Jay Zwischenberger, surgery, and Dr. Dongfang Wang, cardiothoracic surgery.
