Therix Medical video shows private-public partnership with the University of Kentucky
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 16, 2011)─Therix Medical Development Ltd. Co., a medical technology incubator based in Lexington, Ky., has released a video that describes the private-public partnership with the University of Kentucky. Therix was developed at the University of Kentucky in late 2009 following a first-ever clinician innovation seminar attended by some 100 health care providers at the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Medical Center. UK clinicians from six medical related colleges are now able to disclose ideas for devices and diagnostics and work with Therix to prototype and develop a product. Former UK President Lee T. Todd Jr. and Dr. John Gurley, practicing UK interventional cardiologist and chief medical officer of the first Therix spinoff, Bluegrass Vascular Technologies, are featured in the video. Kentucky Technology Inc., UK’s for-profit corporation, is invested in both Therix Medical and Bluegrass Vascular Technologies. Therix Medical closed on a $2.5 million Series A financing round in August 2011.
