Emails sent to Faculty and Staff regarding migration from U-Connect to Exchange 2007

On Tuesday July 24, 2007 the following email was sent to the faculty and staff at the University of Kentucky.

To UK Faculty and Staff:

Beginning at 8:00 PM on Friday, August 3, 2007, UK Information Technology will start migrating the remaining faculty and staff email from U-Connect to the University's new campus mail system, Microsoft Exchange 2007. When the migration is completed, all UK mail accounts will be on the same mail system, and UKIT will provide full support for all Exchange 2007 services.

This migration will generally be transparent! You will still be able to send and receive mail during the migration, although your new mailbox might be empty when you first log into it. Your old U-Connect mail will be moved into your new Exchange mailbox within about 24 hours. Your U-Connect email account will be removed once this is done.

Notes about your mail:

  • Your email address will not change. Your password will not change. Mail that would have gone to your former U-Connect mailbox will automatically go to your new Exchange 2007 mailbox.
  • Your contact list and calendar will not be migrated! If you have contacts stored in your U-Connect address book or appointments on your calendar, be sure to print them before your account is migrated.
  • If you currently forward your mail to another mail system, such as Gmail or Hotmail, then nothing will change. You will not get an Exchange mailbox unless you stop forwarding your mail.
  • Continue going to http://uconnect.uky.edu to check your mail. After your account has been moved, that page will redirect you to the Outlook Web Access (OWA) login page. You may want to bookmark the OWA page so you can go to it directly.
  • After your account has been moved, please go to the Account Manager at https://ukam.uky.edu/manager/ and set up new password self-reset questions and answers. This will allow you to reset your password yourself if you have issues at some time in the future.
  • If you use an email client (such as Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, Entourage) to check your mail instead of a web browser, and it's correctly configured, then your email client will begin picking up mail from the Exchange server as soon as your account is migrated. To make sure the client's configuration is correct, see your local support person or check the documentation at http://www.uky.edu/email/exchange2007/.

To ease your transition a web site has been setup with more information, links to the documentation, how-to-tips, and online answers to many questions. Please check (and bookmark) the page at http://www.uky.edu/email/exchange2007/. If you have questions or need further information, then please contact your local technical support personnel. • Any mail sent to your former U-Connect mailbox will automatically go to your new Exchange 2007 mailbox. You will continue to use your current email address.
  • If you currently forward your mail to another mail system, that will not change.

To ease your transition to the new system, a web site has been established to provide information, links to documentation, how-to-tips, and online answers to your questions. Please bookmark the new email web site at http://www.uky.edu/email/exchange2007/.
