Projects and Community Events
Community Engagement worked with a local historian who assisted UK in coordinating a bus tour to enhance our knowledge of one the Historical African American communities in Lexington East End as we continue to develop sustainable partnerships for this area. The tour gave us both historical and current information on people and businesses that existed and are currently serving the community. The information compiled focused on Medical Care, Sports and Leisure, Education, Religion, Social Services, Food Resources, Housing Renaissance and Industry and Manufacturing. The tour consisted of 40 participants (UK graduate students, staff and faculty, elementary teachers, Fayette County Administration and the East End Neighborhood Association Members).
UK Early Childhood Playground Project
Each year the University of Kentucky Department of Landscape Architecture class works with a client in the community to design and build some type of structure. This year, they worked with UK's Early Childhood Laboratory to build a shade structure for preschoolers. The Early Childhood Laboratory provides a teaching tool to early childhood learning majors and is one of the highest-rated childcare facilities in the state.
